Lobby Phone

Lovely old-fashioned phone in the lobby of the Omni Hotel. Five random thoughts for Friday:

  1. I'm not really much of a phone person, I'd rather send an e-mail. Talking on the phone is a little out of my comfort zone for some reason.
  2. I remember when my grandparents had an old-fashioned phone that was built into a special alcove in their hallway. They were farmers who took good care of their machinery and didn't believe in wasting money; hence they had a 1910's phone in perfect condition and working order, well into the 1970's. They were also on a party line which made for some interesting times in a small town. (Who needed Facebook!?)
  3. I remember when my Dad's friend, Rod, got the first "mobile phone" we had ever heard of; it came in a suitcase and we were terribly impressed.
  4. I have avoided having a cellphone at times for various reasons over the years; however I do have one right now, a Galaxy Core. It seems to be the best way to communicate with my kids, and at times when I haven't had one, it seemed to really annoy people.
  5. I have never broken or lost a cellphone, probably because it stays safe in my purse until I need it and then I get it out. This means I frequently miss calls and messages until I remember to get my phone out and take a look, but that's OK, as I am not an obstetrician or a heart surgeon. I'm getting better at checking it frequently though, except for days when I forget it at home ...
